I am amazed at how many times in the Bible that God makes a promise to his children, and then it takes years before we ever see that promise fulfilled. I also find that God has done this in my own life. Some things I have been blessed enough to see fulfilled already. Other things that God has promised me...I'm still waiting. Even when circumstances look like they will lead us in the opposite direction, God is always at work behind the scenes, so that He will bring forth His will in His time, not ours. It will be His perfect timing.
I think of Abraham and Sarah. God promised them children. It seemed impossible at first. Sarah even took measures into her own hands to try and fulfill God's promise (never a wise thing). Yet, in God's perfect timing, His promise was fulfilled.
David was promised kingship, but it was 20 years or so before he finally took the throne.
Then, God promised David that his seed would remain. In 2 Kings 11, we find that all the descendants in David's line were executed. Well, all except one! Hallelujah! Joash was the big secret, and he was hidden in the house of the Lord for six years. To most everyone else in Judah, it must have appeared that David's line had been extinguished. Yet, God was working behind the scenes once again, and in His time, everything worked out. Joash was crowned king at the age of seven. The wicked Queen who wrongfully usurped her position and murdered so many, was killed, and Baal worship was destroyed.
So, this reminds me that God can and will work in any circumstance despite how things appear, despite the enemy's weapons, and despite the age of the people. God is, has been, and always will be in control. His promises will ALWAYS be fulfilled, but it will be in God's time!
